Family Time vs Career

People always talk about work/ life balance! And while my belief is it’s different for everyone, I want to touch on some basics today.

What is your career? _________________

Now just back to Podcast Episode #2, “ What Drives Us?” This is an in depth subject that takes time to actually decide and execute on.

Are you currently following your true purpose? ______________

Ok, work/life balance! What is your current situation?

Are you married?

Single?

Dating?

Do you have your kids full time?

Lets look at you situation as all vary. What commitments do you have that you wont negotiate on? Cant negotiate on? Those are your most important priorities! Ok, do you have the list?

Now your career! List the priorities that come along with it? Non negotiable?

How far can you schedule out your family/ career items? Can you go out a week? A month? A year? Now let’s really dial in the two. Where do we overlap? Now back to priorities. Is it family or career. ( yes there are alot of questions, as this is important)

Now that you’ve identified overlaps and the importance of set priorities ask yourself this. Do my career and family mesh? Do they align seamlessly or is there a disconnect? Is it possible to merge the two? And example would be a crew such as mine, let’s say I’m at a kids function, I may have someone ask me about insurance policies. In theory there could be potential business during a sport outing. I’m not saying the work while you’re at your kids functions, but what I am saying is do they merge. See I’m finding it the more I follow my passion in my career the more it aligns with my passion with my family. Are you a coach, a Real Estate agent, or a car  salesman? Is there a way to chase your passion until it aligns with your family time? Only you can truly answer this question. But I’ve got you thinking and that’s the intent of this blog. Spend some time with the next few weeks really thinking about this and does your passion with your career merge of the passion of your family? This can be a difficult subject. Can they be aligned? I’m definitely interested to hear your thoughts and comments email me anytime at chris@chrisforsythe.com.
